    How to clean slate step

Thanks. Im not too fussed about the paint (although obviously nice to remove them). Theyre the small white flecks. I will certainly try what you suggest. Its more the lime plaster around the edges either side. I tried wiping the plaster off with a wet sponge, which has left streaks. Certainly...

    How to clean slate step

Hi all How can I clean lime render, drops of paint off this slate step? Ive tried scraping the render off with a redundant plastic bank card (so as not to scratch). And tried water with kitchen sponge. Not having much luck. Anything else I can try? Thanks

    Staining keeps showing through coats

Thanks guys. So its just the damp stains coming through? The cause of the damp (leaking gutter) was fixed in Feb 2026. Id hoped - what with all the heatwaves - the wall would be fully dry by now. Perhaps - as you say - it may take another 6+ months to dry completely. I could use Coverstain to...

    Staining keeps showing through coats

Hi all, This is a cob wall. A leaking gutter outside has caused damp to seep into the wall. Over the summer the wall has been drying out nicely (and the gutter is now fixed!). The surface of the wall was very powder/chalky. I scraped it all off. I then used white silicate paint. The stains are...

Sealant for hairline cracks in lime render?

Ive just bought 5 tubes of Metoset. Looks easy enough to apply. Just thought Id upload some photos. This one shows hairline crack. Its obviously been repaired/sealant used in the past: These are bigger cracks, thankfully at ground level. Each year I use a flexible external sealant. But it...

Sealant for hairline cracks in lime render?

Hi Ive got hairline cracks - and one or to cracks which are more than hairline - in my lime tyrolean render. Is there a good sealant anyone can recommend. I suppose something like a caulk, but for use on exterior walls. Thanks

    Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

I think Ive just fixed it, although not entirly confident of how long it will stay fixed. I think its the nut where the pipe goes into the cistern (Ive put arrow to it) I cant get a spanner on it, so I tried tightening using my fingers. Of course, I turned it the wrong way, so what little...

    Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

Its a really awkward angle. Ive put my phone on selfie mode and stuck it under the cistern to see where the inlet pipe goes. If I can get a spanner on it, is it worth trying to tighten that bolt?

    Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

Ugh, ignore that, the dripping has started again, and its definitely coming from above. Whats the next step? Try and get a spanner to tighten where the inlet pipe goes into the cistern?

    Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

I initially thought the water was coming out of here: I turned the isolater valve off, but it was still dripping. I flushed the toilet to clear the cistern of water.. and the dripping stopped. So yes, good point, l suspect its the fill valve. However, after reading your post about whether...

    Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

Hi all, Ive noticed water emerging from the bottom of the front of the toilet base. Looks like the water isolator vale is leaking. Consistent drips are coming from it. Ive turned the isolator valve to the off position (after I took the below photos), but its still dripping, just not as much...

How to fix a door that doesnt open fully!?

Well spotted on the skirting, I hadnt noticed that! At the point he put the skirting on it probably dawned on him hed made a mistake, so left the skirting off to minimise the effect! But its still not right, obviously. I like your 3rd option. Ill pose this to him. The pillar is for support. I...
