    water under floor

To "Tank" means to stop the water coming in by lining the walls and floor with a waterproof lining, e.g. waterproof paint/bitumen etc. It's what you do to cellars, but may not be practical in this case due to inaccessibility. I just meant "pump out the water first, then tank the underfloor...

    water under floor

We have had a huge amount of rain over the last few months, so my money is on the water table rising. Best thing is pump it out and tank it, if possible.

Some really good Burgundy/Claret (Beaune and Margaux). Oh, and Turkey, from the local butcher. I'm looking for ward to the wine though.

    Vegetarian Sausages

Sounds like a blimmin' good idea. Better than sitting round with the in-laws waiting for the Turkey to cook. I'm always up for a curry, me.

    Damp

Conventional reply - find damp using meter, strip walls back to bare stone, insert membrane, then re-plaster. That's what we did - and we're dry as a bone - and we have a brick and flint cottage, built 4 hundred year ago, partly undergound. Time taken to do most of ground floor - three weeks...

If you do DIY then you are more likely to be a smoker?

According to Government figures, nationally, around 20% of people in the UK smoke, so your poll is not far off proving users of this forum are pretty average. The rate varies considerably according to age, social class and geographical location.

    "Brits begin exodus from France"

It's more than financial, surely. There's the language, the culture, the French for gods sake. Who can blame them for coming back ? It's nice for a holiday, maybe, but I wouldn't want to live there.

    chimney structural inspection: WHO?

We've just paid £350 for a structural engineer (CEng MIStructE) to tell us the kitchen extension was coming away from the house and the roof was sagging, which we knew anyway. Mind you he did suggest the reasons and the remedy, and saved us £3,000 off the price of the house, which was money...

Shaver Socket - OK to connect to 5 amp light supply ?

Ah. Sounds like I'd better get an electrician to do it after all. Thanks for the advice, as ever. This is a very useful and friendly site.

Shaver Socket - OK to connect to 5 amp light supply ?

I'm looking to put a flourescent shaver light and socket in our bathroom. The only way I can see of getting any power to it is off the existing 5 amp lighting circuit junction box. Is that OK, or will it need a 13 amp supply ? (In which case I will valiantly give up and call an electrician)

    HOW CAN THIS BE RIGHT

I don't believe the number of requests we get for transport. We are a hospital, not a taxi firm. The NHS is there to provide health care, not transport people around the country. Just because we provide emergency and some non urgent patient transport, some people believe we should transport...

    Unbelievable.

When we moved in, there were ice cream tubs under the radiators to catch the leaks. At least you could see 'em, so I knew what to expect. Even now we have a nice blue ash tray under the toilet overflow, to collect the drips, - looks quite nice really, and stops water dripping on the plywood...

2 amp round pin double sockets

We have 2 amp round pin single lighting sockets all around the living room. Anyone know if it is possible to buy a 2 amp round pin double socket, so we can plug two lamps in at once ? If so, where could I get it ? Many thanks Mark
