HOW CAN THIS BE RIGHT

I've had a few heart attacks and the after-care nurse has always visited me when I was unable to visit the surgery. Having said that, the whole set-up where I live is absolutely superb. After my last attack, which happened at 2 o'clock in the morning, she made the 20 mile journey to see me and to arrange after-care, at 10am on the same morning.

I put the subject of this thread to her this morning and her reply was, "What do you think? Of course I'd come out to you".

I don't believe the number of requests we get for transport. We are a hospital, not a taxi firm. The NHS is there to provide health care, not transport people around the country. Just because we provide emergency and some non urgent patient transport, some people believe we should transport them to their appointments.

Basically, if you are not on benefit and are mobile, forget it !

There is a network of community volunteer drivers who can help. But transport to hospital is not a right, unless you are an emergency case, or are too ill to travel in a car.
