    Felt flashing and stonework

Thanks! Looks quite a good idea. Does rely on having a nice flat brickwork like wall to attach to - rather than a stone wall, but might work better than my current solution (lots of sealant).

    Felt flashing and stonework

I've got a lean-to workshop against a neighbour's house, which is made of stone. The old felt roof has gone and needs repairing - and leaked a lot with the join to the stonework. Any suggestions as how best to attach the felt to my neighbours stonework. It is soft irregular stone, not...

How can Building control tell I've made internal alteration?

I am considering having an (internal) galleried landing extending by about 2 foot (to allow me to move a door to a new position). The building is very old, lots of exposed beams that wouldn't meet current standards etc. My builder says that building regs/control will be required, and that...

    Cold towel radiator

Took radiator off wall, turned valves on full to blow lots of water through - airlock came out and rad now works.

    Cold towel radiator

thanks bengasman! I've tried bleeding the radiator and got a litre or so of cold water and no air. If there is an airlock nearby but not in the rad, is there a way of finding it and removing it? Is balancing relevant, as the towel radiator is on the HW circuit (and presumably the HW only...

    Cold towel radiator

I recently replaced and old towel radiator (which worked fine) with a new radiator and TRVs. The new radiator was cool (although the pipes near the floor were hot). I then replaced the TRVs with standard valves (as I read here that TRVs and hot water circuits don't work), and got a hot towel...

Core drilling through a THICK wall

I had a similar problem - putting a soil pipe through a wall 3ft thick. Wall was soft sandstone. I'd suggest popping to your local hire shop, getting a decent corer with a clutch, with a diamond drill bit. Get a few extension bars (I used two), and (the most important bit) make sure...

Coring a long long hole in wall for drain

In the end, turned out that the extension bar to the corer I was using was (very slightly) bent - as it went into the wall, it got stuck. (obvious really...) Problem solved by hiring a much more heavy duty corer and diamond drill with a big solid (straight) extension bar. Went though 700mm...

Coring a long long hole in wall for drain

tried coring from both ends but could only get the corer in about 150mm - that leaves me short 300mm in the middle (about a foot :) ) not hugely keen to stitch drill the entire thing. any other thoughts? maybe saniflow isn't too bad after all...

Coring a long long hole in wall for drain

I'm replacing a horrible Saniflow toilet with an ordinary one, and need to core a hole in the wall. The wall is 700mm thick sandstone. I bought a 117mm diamond drill which I attached to my power drill at home, and could get a bit of the way in but it kept on jamming after getting about...

Base for a pre-fabricated inspection chamber

I'm putting in a pre-fab manhole to replace a pipe bend where we've had a blockage and it is difficult to rod. What should the base for the plastic manhole be? I wasn't sure if I need concrete, or a base of gravel, or straight onto the soil? Thanks for any help!

Connector strip in outdoor conduit/junction boxes

I have a few outdoor lights that are connected with cable running along 20mm black conduiting. Presumably becuase the cable didn't stretch, there are a number of junction boxes (those round ones) with connector strip to join cable together. Do you consider use of connector strip in a black...
