I'm replacing a horrible Saniflow toilet with an ordinary one, and need to core a hole in the wall.

The wall is 700mm thick sandstone.

I bought a 117mm diamond drill which I attached to my power drill at home, and could get a bit of the way in but it kept on jamming after getting about 200mm in. Chiselling out the core didn't help.

Any suggestions from anyone as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm not sure if I've got the right kit for the job - is there some dedicated coring machine I should be hiring - if so any suggestions?

Thanks!

28" in english  you might get a specialist diamond drilling co. to do it .....but soft stone may be a problem even for their heavy duty kit (clogs drills)

friction will stop you going any further with the equipment you have.

drill from both ends?

tried coring from both ends but could only get the corer in about 150mm - that leaves me short 300mm in the middle (about a foot :) )

not hugely keen to stitch drill the entire thing.

any other thoughts? maybe saniflow isn't too bad after all...

Rig up a water supply and flood out the dust as you drill

In the end, turned out that the extension bar to the corer I was using was (very slightly) bent - as it went into the wall, it got stuck. (obvious really...)

Problem solved by hiring a much more heavy duty corer and diamond drill with a big solid (straight) extension bar. Went though 700mm no problems at all all in the same direction.

All sorted! no more saniflow - hurray! :D
