A Grunny 15/50 is a very common pump, you won't have any problems getting a like for like. (on a side note please swap it for another Grundfos, and not a cheaper (or more expencive) alternative.) You should be able to pick them up from your local B&Q, or Plumbers Merchant.

Because you were shopping in B&Q and it's in their best intrests to try and hawk their own goods? If you go back to the power tool isle, you will see that 'Pro' tools are almost invariably rated better then Makita, I'm not 100% sure but I think Pro drills are supposedly better then Bosch...

May I sugest a heating engineer (with a small dog) over a plumber? Sounds like a partially blocked jet, or wrong pilot gassing, but it could be other things.. How often does the flame go out? how hard is it to relight? what does the flame look like? Is it making any odd noises?
