12v circuit switch for 240v fan

Yes, from the 12v side. Not a 240v neutral.

Indeed john, I hadn't read all the responses to OP before posting. :)

12v circuit switch for 240v fan

Using a 12v dc conractor. Would do what you require. Switched 12v and neutral across the coil. A 240v ac to a normally open contact with the 240v returning to the fan. Just seems a lot of effort though if you've already got a 240v supply to the fan.

    Dimmers

After looking more at the varilight ones, it suggests 20x 5watt. Which would mean 30x 3 watt should be ok. And yes. They probably do kick off a load of heat. But they are kinda high. 10-15 ft up I'd guess. https://yy2.staticflickr.com/7267/13588632465_f279daec42_z.jpg

    Dimmers

The reason I questioned is 400watt dimmer using the suggested rule of thumb would only allow 40watts of LEDs. :)

    Dimmers

S'ok. Confused me too. I believe what's on there currently is something like the varilight master and slave dimmers. But yes, on the same lamps. They're not bothered about converting it to conventional dimmer one end and a 2way switch the other. They haven't purchased the led's yet...

    Dimmers

I've got some dimmers to look at. And source new trailing edge ones suitable for LED's. The thing being is they're for 2 chandeliers which have a LOT of lamps on. And as a rule of thumb using 1/10 of the wattage. I can't find anything capable of taking the load of about 30 lamps. Currently...

    Alarm wiring problem

I know it's mega **** poor. Getting a new cable there is a mega no no, block and beam floor and already plastered. Like I say, my own fault for not confirming all was completed. Can't really do away with the PIR, but figured without the tamper and strobe it could all be made to work...

    Alarm wiring problem

A little of a boo boo on my own part of not checking it was done completely done before leaving the job after leaving the lad to it...... but essentially the problem is am missing a cable to either a PIR on the landing or to the siren. As there's only one cable in the loft and I need 2...

    extractor fans and smoke alarms.

i get the technicality of "rewire". And that a rewire isn't classed as a renovation. So just wondering at what point does it become compulsory to install smoke's and fan's? :)

    extractor fans and smoke alarms.

In new build domestic properties building reg's require installation of extractor fans in wet areas and smoke alarms. In "renovations" and extensions in domestic properties, again building regs require smokes and extractors. Question, concerning re-wires and minor works. Obviously RCD/ mains...

    Extent of work needed?

It's a t+e as strappers and a single as common which is insulated+sheathed. So all points have a cpc. I just weren't sure if it needed to be updated so all live conductors are within one sheath.

    Extent of work needed?

To satisfy regs/building control..... I have some work to do on a house, a couple of additional lights and a consumers unit change. Whilst having a quick poke about etc I've come across that double insulated PVC singles have been used on the 2 way switching as the common. Question...
