    Damp garage

I did paint gloss on the internal brick walls, and it lasted a good few years. I was surprised just how long it did last!! Cheap and effective (for a while) However, now is the time to try a longer solution!! Maybe i should pull the bugger down and rebuild and tank the walls??

    Damp garage

Hi Walls in detached garage are damp as it is built into ground on 2 sides, it's a 60's brick garage, probably double skin on wet walls, and not possible to dig out around. How about foil-backed plasterboard?? Or some magic gobo to paint on, tried cheap gloss but that didn't work.

Hi The cable goes from the MCB (separate)down under floor (bungalow and not accessible)then buried for about 10m to garage, goes up the garage wall into an old fuse box. I have taken cables out of fuse box and isolated but MCB still won't set. Cable is reinforced black with the armour as earth...

    External Garage

Hi Our external detached garage is causing the house consumer unit to trip on the protected side of the RCD. All OK when I turn off the MCB to garage. Still trips even when old garage main fuse box is off !! Is it the 'buried' cable from house to garage?? Mike

    Damp Loft

House was built in 1965, ceiling in loft is foil backed plasterboard. It would just be a nightmare if I had to take up all the insulation and put a vapour barrier below, surely the foil backed pb holds some back. If I put a vapour barrier down would not he moisture gather on the underside of...

    Damp Loft

My House is a rectangular bungalow, so above every room is the loft. It is a standard trussed roof with long eaves either side. There is loads of easves ventilation, you can feel it, and nothing extracting in there. Still, underside of felt and trusses are wet, even when I can feel the...

    Damp Loft

Thank you Ken, I agree entirely with your post. You know what it is like though, Scottish Power don't want to know, and all Dyson Insulation will do is take it all out !!! I'm then left with a cold bungalow.

    Damp Loft

Yes John, both long eaves have had new soffits and fascias with plenty of ventilation and they are not blocked. Been told best solution is to fit ridge tile vents every couple of meters. What i'd like to know is who's fault is it ?? The loft was OK before they did the insulation.

    Damp Loft

Hi I have a 1960's bungalow with non breathable felt, but very good eaves ventilation, Just had Dyson Insulation do all the loft over summer for free with Scottish power. OK, loft is very wet on underside of felt and trusses are damp, they have been back and put those expanding felt things...

    Fitting a new door

About to fit a new door and frame into my new extension and wondered if anyone had fitted the frame a different way. Most of the manufacturers recommend drilling through the frame and securing to block/brick structure. However, the door frames ALWAYS line up right on the joint where the...

    shortage of houses

Why are we constantly told that there is a shortage of houses ?? Again today Hilary Benn has been complaining that not enough are being built. However, There are hundreds and thousands 'up for sale' so where is the shortage.

    structual calculations

I have a 1965 timber frame bungalow. I am putting an extension on back and making a new opening into. Is there such a thing as 'standard structural calcs' for my Lintel ? I will have a 3m opening with beam taking 8 ceiling joists above. I was hoping to use a GLUELAM beam, as this will be...
