Shelves in a tiled alcove in bathroom

Afternoon all, I've got a tiled alcove in the bathroom below: The wife is wanting to put shelves up in it. Not really sure on the best approach. We're thinking 2 shelves, not taking too much stuff, just shampoo etc. As you can see the location is above a bath. However, despite the shower...

Bathroom with tiles over plaster board

I'm going to second the tanking kits. They're an absolute sawdle to put in. You basically end up with a rubber skin over all the walls, they're about £50 for the kit and my advice is go ham with it. I only needed it for my shower area but had enough left over to do half the bloody bathroom.

    What Varnish for Velux Windows?

I've got 5 Velux windows that need revarnished. They weren't well looked after previously and the varnish flaked off i nthe corners when condensation ran down. I've sorted out the condensation issue for the most part but I'm going to sand them down and varnish them. Does anyone have a...

    Disconnect Solar Panels

I've got some old water heating solar panels on the roof of my house. We've been here for 5 years and they have never worked. We've called multiple companies to look at getting them going again but nobody was interested in it, and at this point I've lost interest in it too. We've got a...

    Bend a small offset

I'm looking to put a piece of exposed pipe into my bathroom on one of those raised toilet cisterns. Having a look at the spacing from the wall to the pipe clips compared to the inlet on the cistern, it looks like there will be a very small offset required (say 10mm). The feed will be 15mm...

    Removing one tile

Don't think yoully be able to get the tile off in one piece. Depends on the size of the tile and how well it's attached.i suppose. I got some wall mounted taps in the bathroom I'm doing up which there is limited access. I was going to leave an access panel but the wife wasn't happy with the...

    Bathroom Renovation

Progress has been a bit swifter now. With the bulk of the tiling done the next job was the floor. We went for a Tarkett click vinyl flooring which is water proof and is basically like laminate flooring. This was installed with a cushioned underlay designed for these types of floor. No...

    Bathroom Renovation

Progress has been slow. Mostly because I got to the point of tiling and not being a tiler, I was very, VERY slow. Tiling is hard. So the plan was to lay a batten across the bottom of the wall to mark out the second last row of tiles. I then spent a couple of hours figuring out exactly where...

Prepare a Wall for wallpaper in a bathroom

Evening chaps. Doing up my bathroom (still) and after making a complete mess of the tiling I've now got the area above the tiles to contend with. The plan is to either paper it or to just paint it. It's plasterboard that has been taped and sanded flat. It looks pretty good from the ground...

    Sealing Plywood under vinyl tiles

Is that because the vinyl tiles are impermeable?

    Sealing Plywood under vinyl tiles

Going to be laying vinyl click lock tiles over 12mm ply in a bathroom. The ply is WBP. I'm wondering what I should seal it with. The tiles are a floating floor so don't need adhesive. Would sbr do or does it need something like Thomson water seal?

    Shower only produces extreme temperatures

Some showers have a filter which can get clogged with gunk gun can reduce the flow. We had a similar experience with our electric which was due to the pressure reduction valve on the hot water tank being sticky (the cold to the shower was from this supply). We ended up replacing the pressure...

    Exposed Bath waste alignment problem

Well, it certainly fits. I might give polishing the socket a try, but it doesn't look half bad. Probably about £10 in psrts.

Vinyl click lock in a bathroom

Hello all, I'm putting vinyl click lock tiles in a bathroom (they tick many boxes for the wife, me id prefer lino). Since this is like laminate you can secure through it as it needs to expand and contract. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to deal with the toilet? Am I going to have to cut...
