Megger'd my work buddy the other night...

Accidentally of course. We were doing a bit of fault isolation. He was doing the probing with some test wires , I was pressing the button ( old Megger BM10 analogue unit) . Me: Are you clear ? Him: Yes Me: Zap ! Him: Ahhhh.... Bloody hell, That hurt, you zapped me ! Ouch, ouch...

HELP MY CEILING LIGHTS (BULBS) ARE BLOWING UP !!!!!!!!!!!!

What type and brand of bulb are you using. The house that i currently live in was the worse one ever for blowing bulbs, they hardly lasted a few weeks regardless of the brand or price. Since switching over to low energy CFL's I haven't changed a light bulb in years ( unless I've broken...

    Help with crimping

It will depend on which type and brand of crimp you use , but I was trained to bare enough cable so that the bare wire is crimped to the inner metal part of the crimp, then the plastic outer sheath crimps down onto the Cable insulation to secure that . At my work i mostly use Tyco AMP PIDG...

Just got some instrument back off Calibration...

Hello folks, Although I'm 'only' a home DIY'er I have invested in some test equipmemt a few months ago, when i was both doing some work myself and getting work done by a local spark. I bought an RCD tester, EFLI tester and Cont/Ins tester as i just had the inclination and a bit of spare...

    Crimp connections

Just purely out of genuine interest. Is this against regulations for domestic/industrial installations, or is it just considered bad practice in these envoironments ?

    Calibration Checkbox/CK Combicutters

The Knipex brand also seem to come under the Draper umberella these days , and i think that Knipex are some of the best cutters that I've ever owned. I have a pair of 8" side cutters that i use on stainless steel locking wire and split pins and they cut through them effortlessly and have done...

    Crimp connections

The items that you have linked to are for crimping uninsulated copper tube lugs not the Red,Blue & Yellow PIDG type of colour coded crimps. I recently bought a pair of these for occasional home use , (in my case for installing better earthing and bonding conductors) and in this respect...

Does this Earth look a bit puny ?

Hello folks, My eldest daughter got married a couple of weeks ago and has just moved into a new rented house. Her fella is in the RAF and they now live in a forces married quarter, just down the road, so their house has been looked after and well maintained. When they first moved in and...

    Henley block

I had a Henley service block fitted between the CU('s) and the Main isolator switch not so long ago. I did originally have a genuine Henley service block, but during the rework found that it was a little difficult to get the tails to fit into and the lid fastened down properly even though...
