The radiator valve that you turned down which stopped the vibrating will need replacing,im guessing its a Trv type with the 0 to 5 setting on?They do get problems occasionally but it is rare in my experiance.
Valve head should not wobble when tightened,so yes it needs replacing.you could buy the same trv and save doing any actual plumbing work. Most trvs come with a decorators cap which you fit when removing radiator to stop trv accidentally opening.
Is it me or does anyone else think the caleffi combination valve is facing wrong way,i know it could be right as we cant see inlet into cylinder ,but i would have fitted it differantly?
My concern is that you asked a builder if it was safe ,when an rgi had told you not,the builder is unlikely to know the gas safe regs, the rgi is looking after your best interests and afety so go with their advice.
ditto doitall, just disassemble the inlet valve, clean and reassemble ,often if there has been any work on the mains in the street it can cause sand to enter and cause minor problems.
At £40 i would drill the cast and file it out and fit a £3 plastic one and seal with silicone,i always add silicone to plastic to plastis ones anyway.
