    Hard wood decking types/colours

Thank you Mattice, so it seems that I was given what was promised it's just my misfortune that they look so different. I thought the same about staining what you have just said that it would not last long and would be a pain to re do it every 6 months or year. I'll have to find another solution...

    Hard wood decking types/colours

Hi there kind people of DIYnot. I need some advice please. We wanted to change our dated stone patio to some nice wood decking. I have bought some weathered hard wood decking locally. It was really cheap (I think £3/m +VAT is cheap) so I did not mind that it needs to get washed and treated. I...

    16 amp oven wiring

Thank you ericmark. I have assumed that what I have would be safe in theory I was more worried about complying with the regulations. With regards to changing the grid switches I'm only talking about his one switch all the others end in single 13A sockets and I don't need them to be changed since...

    16 amp oven wiring

You are an absolute star, thank you. One last question. I understand that the circuit is protected by the RCBO but legally does it have to have a fuse somewhere along the line or is it ok if it does not have one?

    16 amp oven wiring

Thank you again EFLImpudence, this is exactly what I meant. From the 16A rcbo the only thing is fed is the oven nothing else. I think it's called a radial circuit, basically a dedicated cable running from the consumer unit to the one appliance and nothing else. Everything else is fed from a...

    16 amp oven wiring

Thanks for taking time to reply. The reason for the OTT cable is that this is a VERY slow moving renovation project and when he did the first fix he wanted to make sure it will accommodate any scenario. Connecting a smaller than 32A or 45A unit to it should not make any harm. I do not need that...

    16 amp oven wiring

Hello to you all and Merry Christmas first of all. I'm hoping the Christmas days after-celebrations boredom will provide me with some answers :D. Before I start I appreciate everyone will advise me to call an electrician and have it done by them. This is what I might do unless it's a very...

    Silicone on painted ceiling

Great, thanks for the link now I know exactly what I'm looking for. Interestingly in the description it says it is suitable for painted surfaces. I might have to blame the paint for my misfortune. Anyway I won't risk is I'll sand back the paint around the edges before sealing it again. Thank you...

    Silicone on painted ceiling

Thanks a lot for the reply. Just what I feared. It's not a massive job I just hate to do the same job twice. I'll try to buy one of the two recommended sealants.

    Silicone on painted ceiling

Hello there, can I please have some advice. I have a tiled bathroom to the ceiling all around. The ceiling is plasterboard, skimmed and painted. I have siliconed all around where the tiles and the ceiling meets. I have painted the ceiling before the tiles went up (might have been where it went...

Am I being too fussy? Joiners / carpenters advice please

I never expected such turn of events but now I actually feel I have to defend my joiner. Looking back I should have asked for the window boards to extend each side by a little BUT I have particularly asked him for them not to extend but come out straight following the line of the window reveals...

Am I being too fussy? Joiners / carpenters advice please

First of all let me thank you all for your advice and time. I have to be fair with my joiner and you people and report back what happened this morning. He turned up on time as usual, in fact earlier then discussed, by the time I got to the house he was already working on the door from the...

Am I being too fussy? Joiners / carpenters advice please

Thank you Doggit! Very useful info. I know it seems like he's just a chancer but in fact he really is a joiner with decades of experience. He also has the right tools. I consider myself a good/quality diyer (even though a slow one) and can distinguish between proper tools and diy ones. He's got...

Am I being too fussy? Joiners / carpenters advice please

Thanks wgt52. As far as I understand the jargon the door frame has been installed today and the lining is to follow tomorrow. I can post a photo tomorrow with the door open but now it's too dark for that. I am not arguing the price you are right we have agreed on the quote. Since it is a fixed...

Am I being too fussy? Joiners / carpenters advice please

Thank you Bosswhite! The frame was made by him. He did everything from measuring up, making the frame, hanging the door, putting up door furniture and painting them. If he blames the frame he can only blame himself. He made it and installed it this morning.
