    Boiler issue (maybe)

Sorry yes. Should be on maximum to light it. I mean when calling for heat. If it was on 4 or less it wouldn’t fire up and if I turned the dial down to 4 whilst it’s calling for heat it goes off….

    Boiler issue (maybe)

Evening all. Potential issue with my boiler so looking for help before I get someone out to look. I have an ideal ff24. Old but fairly robust. Seperate hot water tank in the bathroom etc. Tonight the hot water has been on and there is no hot water. The pump in the airing cupboard is...

    Spindles

Thanks everyone. I’m using the heavy duty wonder wipes and it’s coming up decent to be honest. I’m going to give the zinsser bin a go before painting but will still probably give it a light Sand to be sure. Thanks for your help

    Spindles

So a combination of something like wonder wipes and some scotchbright should clean it up enough then. is the zinsser really as good as it days? Does it really stick without sanding if you were to paint on gloss? I only ask about the zinsser as I bought some allcoat satin but had it colour...

    Spindles

Ok. I guess all that makes sense as the doors are the same around the handles. They looked ok when I moved in but when you try to clean the kids grubby paw prints that’s when it turns to chewing gum. The paint you don’t touch is fine. Just the high touch areas. I’ve replaced the doors and took...

    Spindles

Hi guys. what’s the best way to prep my spindles and handrail for painting. looks like it was previously oil based gloss that has been painted over with water based satinwood or something. It’s peeling like chewing gum. I have a paint scraper but obviously on the detail bits isn’t so good...

    Stair handrail

I just want to use it to repair the piece that’s damaged then screw to the Batton that needs fixing back to the wall

    Stair handrail

Ok that’s an idea worth trying then. trouble is the split is at the thinnest point so not sure how much wood is left to actually glue together. It won’t be grabbed in a fall. The stairs are like a u shape so it’s all a bit awkward anyway. it’s the piece on the left of this picture that is...

    Stair handrail

Didn’t think about skirting boards…… the original skirting was similar to ogee but slightly different. So maybe it was done to match that. everything in this house is slightly different to anything In a shop ☹️

    Stair handrail

I did contemplate repairing it. Just thought it would be easier to buy all new. Would save me stopping the paint off the rest. That was until I realised it does t exactly look “off the shelf”

    Stair handrail

Hi guys. hoping for a bit of direction….. I have a wall mounted stair handrail in my house (built 1997). The stairs is a U shaped so the handrail is in 5 parts. The paint job on it was shocking and difficult to sand. So I thought I’d use a heat gun and because I didn’t want loads of mess I...

    Garden/sewer/manhole

Hi all, I’m currently trying to work some ideas out for what to do with my garden. Just working through ideas at this stage my garden used to slope downwards away from the house. The last owner pretty much levelled it out. Except the bottom left hand side. (See picture) where he built a...

    Window reveal

Hi all, what’s everybody’s opinion on tiling into the window reveal when tiling part way up in a kitchen? For bigger jobs in the past I have paid tilers, however I have just done a small bit in the kitchen myself. (Not to save money but more to occupy me with the never ending rubbish that’s...
