Pump CH water to outhouse automatically?

Hi folks, I want to put some a pair of underground heating pipes over my garden (about 25 meters) to an outbuilding to power a radiator in there. I think it's too far for the combi boiler to pump by itself so I was going to help it by putting a seperate pump on that pair of pipes. When I've...

Struggling Building a Garage Maximum 2.5m High

If you're really desperate for every inch you could do away with the 6x2's all together and put some steel box section in instead... It's not that expensive... I've no idea what size they would need to be, but maybe save you two or three inches...

Building a garage that’s not square?

We've just built a pitched roof garage which is not square - it's 7 meters long, but the depth on one end is 5m and on the other is 7m. It means the fascia gets lower as it goes along the uneven side. No big deal.

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

Well after doing some more tests today I'm fairly happy it has a good hold, so I've laid out a matt of what I can only describe as giant scrim tape (approx 600mm wide), which will hopefully add some extra strength to the adhesive bed, and started tiling it. Fingers crossed.

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

UFH hasn't been activated. It was fairly warm when it was done, but the room has no direct sunlight, it took a good 2-3 hours for it to stop leaving fingerprints when I touched it... Just don't know whether to a) tile over the top and hope for the best b) cut a groove in each crack, scrim...

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

Here's a photo of it before pouring. In case it's not clear how the UFH wire is fixed down, I've laid strips of scrim tape and stapled the tape either side of the cable. Prefer this way over gaffa tape as the SLC can penetrate the scrim tape through to the ply underneath. You can see the...

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

100% definitely 22mm ply, not chipboard, it cost a fortune and it's really strong. Definitely no sway in the joists, they're really solid, can jump up and down on the floor and it does nothing. The SLC is reasonably thin - in most places just enough to cover the wire and then a bit more - so...

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

Yeah it was a shell, no fixtures or anything. I replaced the floorboards as a lot were damaged, and I had to pull up quite a few to replace the soil pipe, before long there was more gaps than floor. Pretty sure the ply has a gap all round, though I didn't do that deliberately... More it was...

Hairline cracks in self levelling - okay to tile over?

Hi folks, A few months ago I removed all bathroom floorboards and replaced with 22mm tongue & groove plywood, fastened down with about a zillion screws and glue in the joints, then primed with watered-down SBR and applied Screwfix No-Nonsense SLC. It's the kind that comes with a tub of white...

    Mystery pipe-any ideas?

How did it come to be inside the clay pipe though, if it was pushed through?

Safe to rotavate and turf cut around trees?

Hi folks, I've got a large lawn (approx 300 square meters) which need to be replaced. I was hoping to use a turf cutter to remove the existing turf, then rotavate the soil prior to laying new turf. My concern is that there are two large trees in the centre of the lawn - a blue cedar and a...

Dishwasher drain pump not running - thermostat?

Hi folks, I've got a Beko DW603 dishwasher which has stopped draining. Everything else works fine but the drain pump never runs. I've stripped it apart and the pump seems fine, rotates freely but stops at the magnets, has 180ohms resistance over it's windings, and everything is not blocked at...

    Overcurrent fault on socket ring

Hi everyone, just an update on this, I rewired the CU to turn the ring into a radial circuit. I first wired up just one socket to eliminate the CU or any other factors, then tried connecting different runs of sockets in turn. I've now narrowed the fault down to just two particular sockets which...
