Incase it helps anyone else. I had two issues which I have now happily resolved.
The fundamental issue was the brushes, as most posts on the forum suggest. Mine were worn right down.
The problem I had, after replacing the brushes the drum still would not turn. The fault here was the...
Having a nightmare with my Bosch washing machine ( model number WF0285SGB ). Basically the drum has stopped spinning. I moved it last week and it refused to enter spin cycle but continued to wash clothes. It has now stopped spinning altogether.
Initially when I moved it, it was into a...

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.
CBF : In the first instance I will have a look and see if washer needs replaced. It does look like the water is coming out from the nut rather than the pipe.
Andy / Charnwood : If this does not work, I will look...
It drops about 15 mm then rests on the syphon. I did think it was strange that the float was sitting on the syphon when i first had a look at this.
I have tried to adjust the height of the float but it didnt seem to make any difference. The arm which holds the float is very sensitive but...

Hi Folks.
Thnaks for the helpful response so far. I have tried my local timber merchants and the widest they do is 290mm on special order. I was trying to avoid going with the jointed/glued solution as the window sill is very visible in the kitchen.
