    Best lighting in garage?

Thanks, I think I'll stick with the flourescent. Any idea if 2 x twin 70W (280W total) would be excessive for for my size garage? :)

    Mains voltager halogen lighting

Howdy Just came across these and wondered what the good people here thought of them :D On the surface it seems easier, cheaper and less to go wrong than halogens with transformers. Is there a major trade-off of some description :?: Thanks

    Best lighting in garage?

Thanks Richard In looking also came across this.. SON lowbay 250W for £44! Seems like a lot of light - anyone used similar in a garage? :? http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=101674&ts=99471&id=93461# Otherwise it'll be 2 x 58W twin fluorescents (~230W) for £68...

Fire door - can I open into garage instead of dining room?

My approved plans show the fire door opening into the garage from the dining area. I take it this is OK and the BCO/bldg regs inspector won't insist it opens into the dining room. Just wanted to sanity check in case it was obvious to those with more experience! Thanks

    Best lighting in garage?

Hi everyone Planning out the lighting for my new garage and would appreciate your feedback :D Room is approx 5m x 6m x 3m (W x L x H).. Right now I'm thinking 2 x 6' fluorescent lights, 70W each with diffuser. They'll be installed seperately to get the coverage. I'm getting quoted...

Painting blocks and masonary in garage

Hello I plan to paint the concrete blocks on the inside of my garage and one wall made of brick that used to be my gable end (before I added extension.) In a warehouse I was in recently, they had painted the concrete block in a silver coloured paint that literally looked as though it had...

Dingbat, if this is the case, what are the potential problems I face, e.g. he does 1st fixing, BCO comes along says looks ok go ahead and plaster, we board and plaster and finish the job... will the BCO or someone else ask for proof that the electrician is a member of a competent persons body or...

Concrete oversite without DPM in conservatory

The joists at one end are built onto the inner-leaf brickwork and at the other end sit on joist hangers (connected to a piece of timber resting on the side walls, above the oversite.) The joist span is around 3m with no supporting walls underneath. The concrete oversite is probably 30cm below...

Concrete oversite without DPM in conservatory

A relative is having a conservatory build at the moment and the concrete oversight below the floor joinsts doesn't look as though the DPM was laid first (no plastic edges visible anywhere!). Should she expect problems with this or is it nothing to worry about? I assume it's there to stop any...

    Sky+ distributed around house?

Thanks for the info and links - really useful, cheers! One last thing, as the cable between my living room and loft is already in place, can this be used with a simple Y-splitter at both ends to send the aerial signal down to the Sky+ box and then return back from the RF2 into the loft amp...

    Part P for extension

The local electrician I'm using for my extension had "Part P" 6 months ago and is now reapplying and hopes to have within 4-6 weeks time. Is this something that my building inspector might pull me up on when the build is finished? Thanks :?

    Sky+ distributed around house?

Howdy all After many hours searching, I need some help to take my (soon to be installed) Sky+ and blast it into each room. The help/advice I need is getting from what I have now to what I'd like. :D What I have today: Aerial on roof comes into an SLx amp in the loft. This then has an...

    Insulate after 1st fixing?

I'm planning works in this order, or is there any reason why I should insulate between joists/rafters before the sparc/plumber has done their 1st fix? Plan to install insulation just before ready to plaster and ready to lay floor. Thanks! :P

Inner wall lower than outer, cavity closer gap!

Hi all I've fitted cavity closers around all of the openings in my extension, but on a couple of openings the inner wall is approx 1-2" lower than the outer which means the following when fitting the cavity closer (double flanged): 1. If fixed to the outer brickwork, there's a gap below...
