Thanks Rob & oldbutnotdead for your input. On consideration I've decided not to change the tank. The current one is fine if a little large but if any future buyers want a bath it's already there rather than them having to switch from my smaller one. Also it's making more work grovelling around...
Thanks, we have no plans to refit a bath and I want to make more space by removing the existing tank so for the new tank size I should allow for 10% more volume than the hot water cylinder?
Hi all, is there a minimum size loft cistern for supplying the hot water cylinder? We don’t have a bath now, just an instant shower so only use hot water for a few dishes, hand washing & similar small jobs. Do the regs specify a minimum cistern size please? Ta muchly.
Thanks all, sorry for slow reply, net v busy just now! Flue is coming horizontally through a vertical wall. I thought maybe a curved steel cowl as for extractor fans would stop falling & wind driven rain. Never had this before in our 10yrs in the house!
Today our boiler kept tripping the RCD but with no fault code showing, and the engineer found the fault to be moisture around the area of the pcb. Once dry everything was fine. I've never seen this fault and he suggested it could have been rain ingress into the flue as last night was very wet &...
We have a Glow worm 15hxi boiler. Recently it had fault code f5, overheat fault. British Gas engineer changed both thermistors & overheat stat. Following morning F5 again! I reset the thermostat cut out thinking that if there is a fault it will cut out again but heating works fine. Now when I...
I’m removing a fireplace & understand the chimney should be vented by a grille. I’ve also heard of chimney balloons to stop draughts.
Is the venting mandatory? Would the house structure be compromised by fitting a balloon and blocking the flue?
Many thanks.
Thanks ianmcd
I thought balancing was achieved by opening the inlet fully and restricting the outlet to the rad with the ls until the correct temp drop was achieved. How might I do this with the ls on the inlet? Is balancing necessary at all with TRVs?
Thanks. :?
I just fitted a new TRV to the rad outlet for convenience and because it’s reversible flow & the instructions allowed it.
The rad warms up fine but will it be as efficient as fitting the TRV to the inlet? Do rads with TRVs need balancing? If so can a rad with the TRV on the outlet be balanced &...
Hello peeps.
I'm doing a DIY shower & the tray instructions call for a mortar bed on the plywood. As the bottom of the shower tray is flat & it's going on marine ply what's the point of this? Would I build in any problems if I did without it?
Thanks
This sounds like the best way to go. The stat is on the hall/living room party wall so just a hole & a bit of wiring. I’ll try that first as it’s free! I’ll leave the second timer idea on the back burner & chase the draught proofing.
Thank you all for your very useful and knowledgeable inputs...
Cavity wall insulation is applied but I think not too good in places. Phoned a company & they won’t try to put more in. Draught proofing is in progress but I still don’t want the hall stat overriding the boiler and cooling the other rooms. Maybe I could move the stat?
