    Steel Beam Calcs

I have been told the Engineer is giving a high quote due to the uncertanty of the ground conditions. Surely he would carry out all calcs based on sound footings and not otherwise, in which case the ground conditions should make no difference to his quote price?

    Steel Beam Calcs

Hi, I need to some steel beams to support the rear corner of the existing house once a two story side extension is built. The steel beams will be within the ceiling of a large kitchen. Anyone care to offer me a suitable quote range for an Engineering quote, through my Architect...

Offpeak central heating - no hot water

As above. We have offpeak central heating. We used to get hot water warmed up over night in the tank for us to use. This stopped working. So we started using the 1 hour timer, hot water boost switch to heat water. This no longer works and the light on the timer unit, which tells me the...

    Combi Boiler in Loft

I am aware of the corgi regulations (permanent ladder, handrails etc), but what are the downsides to have a boler in the loft. My insulation is on the floor of the loft, so temperatures will vary from summer to winter....a lot. The boiler will hopefully be mounted on the gable end wall of...

    My first post About Gas

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean, stood off the damaging motor, with pipe clips? Are these little stands, so that the pipe is not attached to the house, but supported off the ground?

    My first post About Gas

Thanks for your reply. It looks like my meter is going to be around the other side of my house, to where the gas is needed. Will this be a problem, bringing gas around the house? If not, how is it usually done? In the ground or along the outside wall? What problems are sometimes...
