I am aware of the corgi regulations (permanent ladder, handrails etc), but what are the downsides to have a boler in the loft.

My insulation is on the floor of the loft, so temperatures will vary from summer to winter....a lot. The boiler will hopefully be mounted on the gable end wall of the loft space, so not load bearing on the floor.

Any suggestions or warnings?

TIA

P.S. Waiting for the new year to get quotes for full CH system installation after gas has been run to the house (currently Systsem 7 only).

Only downside is having to go in loft to repressurise system also it is prob going to be further from point of use ie the taps so hot water takes that little bit longer to get there.

Could always add a pressure gauge and filling loop elsewhere in the circuit ;)

Also depending on make and model, you may have to get into loft for control adjustments.

Also have to have a means of isolation(gas cock),outside loft space.

sooner or later, either you will get older, or you will have an injury, and find you can't climb into the loft :(

Get an installer who comes highly recommended by people you know and trust and let him do what he sees fit.
And get a wireless programmable roomstat.

I don't like loft installations

  • 1, if it leaks the first you know about it is when the ceiling is damaged
    2, if there is a fire ?
3 if there is a gas leak ?
    4 repressuring
5 additional cost of pipework ,ie running gas from ground floor to loft, flooring , lighting, rail etc

also I don't like hauling heavy toolboxes up ladders

a modern boiler is so small surely in a house you can find a little space for it

I know this is down to the installer but condensate discharge pipe can cause untold probs depending on where in loft boiler is sited. I have seen some real S****y looking installations on the outside where condensate pipe comes down, expanding foam mess everyhere ............in fact thinking about it it must be the same installer doing them

I saw one in Reading with the condensate pipe left to drip on an old rolled up carpet!

The son in law was a detective who chased people who watched child porn on the internet. I thought they were all white middle aged men but he said they crosser all ages and races and a few women as well!

Make sure that the boiler as a pressure switch, so it stops as soon as the water p gets low. They don't all.

I always fit a gas and electrical isolator on the landing and a gauge and filling loop there too.
