New tap, stiff valve so soon

It's a John Lewis Race kitchen tap. Understand it has San Marco ceramic cartridges so would expect those to be reliable.

New tap, stiff valve so soon

Installed a new kitchen tap, to replace a 10 year old one where the cold valve had got rather stiff. Perfect - silky smooth ceramic valves in the new tap! But now after just 3-4 weeks, the cold tap has once again got really stiff. I don't understand how this is possible - the water is not...

    Pushfit confusion

I want to connect a new tap in my house. I want to copy the way other taps have been done, with pushfit connectors. But I don't understand what parts are used - I cannot find any pushfit tails with male pushfit connectors, they all seem to be female. The picture shown is what is done in my...

Installer recommends 18kw instead of 15kw?

You are confusing trust with business risk. Tradesmen shouldn't trust any customer, what basis would they have to trust them? But they have to take a risk that the customer won't pay, in order to carry on their trade.

Installer recommends 18kw instead of 15kw?

This is actually a really interesting topic. It's true that Worcester is plasticy and not very serviceable, but they are rated highly by all their users and the Which? consumer guide. In fact whenever I mention Worcester to people, they acknowledge that they are good and mention that they or...

Installer recommends 18kw instead of 15kw?

Wow. Just wow. I have always thought that one of the main differences between good tradesmen and bad tradesmen is whether they can see things from the customer's perspective. You really ought to put yourself in their shoes occasionally and things would be better for you. Why would I *trust* a...

Installer recommends 18kw instead of 15kw?

Got a quote recently for a new Worcester boiler to replace a 10 year old Potterton boiler which is 15kw. Never had any problems with the 15kw Potterton in terms of power. The installer says it's worth paying a little extra for the 18kw because it will be more efficient - something about the...

    Megaflo control value dripping

I can't say I know enough about how the pressure control valve works to answer your question, but 3 users in the other thread confirmed that this solved a dripping issue, and I am the 4th on this forum to confirm it. Surely you can't say it's not worth a try considering a new valve costs £120...

    Megaflo control value dripping

Not wanting to disappoint, here is your reply: the manual for my Megaflo specifically lists 4 customer maintenance tasks which the end user can carry out themselves including rebuilding the air lock, and this valve cleaning. I'm sure however that tradesmen would much rather they were called out...

    Megaflo control value dripping

Dan, thanks for replying but it seems you're incorrect. I found an old thread on this forum which explained how to clean the strainer inside the combination valve. This is a end-user capable maintenance task. Sure enough, the strainer was full of limescale and so far no drips! Glad I didn't...

    Megaflo control value dripping

I have a 7 year old Megaflo system and the control valve has started to drip. It's very slow, perhaps one drip in a week and quickly evaporates. Is this a sign of worse to come, or can I forget about it? Not sure I want the expense of an appropriately qualified plumber  Also, there...

    Re-using integrated washing machine door?

My integrated washing machine has broken, and I am looking to buy a replacement. The problem I have is that they no longer sell the cupboard doors from my kitchen. Therefore the only choice I have it to re-use the washing machine door on my current machine. Problem - the two holes drilled...

    Sadolin advice

I am looking to paint a wooden garage door with Sadolin Classic Light Oak, and then a couple more layers of Sadolin Extra. I can't quite decide if the colour might get too dark with 3 layers of "light oak", and am therefore considering going for the Sadolin Extra "clear" option for the second...
