ballcock problems

help please,
i turned down the stopcock slightly at the mains and now the ballvalve on one of my toilets wont shut off, the toilet actually overflowed, if i turn the stopcock to fully open it shuts off ok any ideas why, i didnt think they were pressure sensitive

Indeed they are to a certain degree...some types (Torbeck for example) have pressure reducers that you fit in the inlet pipe.
The traditional brass types 1 and 2 are less sensitive to pressure.

Indeed ....but the tor beck etc. are a modern form of an equilibrium valve :idea: and they rely on water pressure both sides of the diaphragm that shuts off the water - so what you are finding -it`s not unusual ;)
 
By throttling the main supply, you're not reducing the static pressure, just the flow

...working pressure will reduce though
