My i.p address on my P.C disappears more often than not,i.e when its not there in "connections" the ip info is blank, when i command "ipconfig" the command box flashes on the screen for a nano second.
Any help many thanks.

You need a command prompt open before running ipconfig, otherwise ipconfig will run, display it's output then exit which is why you get the prompt flashing up for a split second.

Go to run, type "cmd", then in the resulting console type "ipconfig".

When you say your IP isn't there, is your connection dropping at that time?

Are you using a DHCP server or is the IP address manually configured?

If it's DHCP I suppose it's possible that your DHCP server is failing to complete the request. Have you got any other machines on the network that are exhibiting the same problem? This could account for intermittent behaviour based upon DHCP lease times, are you aware of the problem happening more frequently when your machine has been off for a long period of time?

When your machine is unsuccessful in obtaining an address have you tried an "ipconfig /renew" to see if the DHCP server assigns you an address when prompted again?

Have you tried manually assigning an IP address rather than relying on your DHCP server? This should be the easiest fix but fails to solve a more serious network problem if it is a fault with your DHCP server.

Alternatively the issue could just be that your DHCP client is at fault possibly some sort of race condition during boot up.

If you're using a manually assigned address (which I presume you aren't) it could be down to some sort of software (driver or otherwise) fault. I would say this is much less likely than the other options, but a reinstall of your network card drivers wouldn't do any harm.

Thanks for all replies.

At the moment i am up and running,i run a laptop "wireless router" the pc is wired to the router,i have not had this fault with the lap top.

I have just opened "Network Connection Details" all fields are filled.however i notice as it has been mentioned " Lease obtained 20/08/10 15.06.50 " with the same expirey date and time Does this have any bearing.

The question re does this occur when the pc has been idle for some time i would say No.

If i restart now there is a good chance the ip Add will disapear
