Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. Yesterday a boiler man came to do the regular annual boiler check and now since he has left the radiators do not get warm like before and the hot water is just warm not hot like it should be. The radiators are not cold they are mild so to speak but they used to get red hot. The hot water only gets warm now and not hot like it should and have no idea what the guy has done. The thermostat on the wall for the radiators is on 30C but the radiators are nowhere near this temperature. They are barely on! I need the heating on a bit high as I have my elderly relatives staying for a while.
Secondly I have noticed the boiler keeps firing up every 2 mins and it did not used to do this before. It used to fire up and then would just stay on.

Any ideas on what the guy may have done?

Thanks for any help.

Chris

With respect,do you not think a bit more info about your boiler/system would be in order.

Hi guys thanks for quick replies. Heres some answers to your questions.

1. With respect,do you not think a bit more info about your boiler/system would be in order?

Sorry I am an absolute novice and know nothing about boilers. All I know is that it is made by bika and very old, at least 10 years old if not more.

2. .....or get the service guy back?

Yes good idea its just no one is at home and I wont be able to get a day off work for some time.

3. Is the boilers thermostat set low?

Im guessing thats the dial on the boiler. It has always been on 4, boiler man changed it to 5 and I have now changed it back to 4.

4. Check the boiler stat is on.

How do I do this?

I think the problem is that it doesnt get hot becuase it keeps firing up? Could that be the issue? It used to fire up once and stay on.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

He may well have turned the controls down. eg heating and hot water temps. Do you have any controls on the boiler to control the temps with? If so, turn them up. ;) ;)

There is only one control on the boiler and its numbered 1-6. Guess thats the thermostat?

As for the hot water I thinks its seperate as it is upstairs in the airing cupboard (the orange foam covered thing). The dial there is pointing to 70C.

Thanks.

Gas valve problem ?
Fan and venturi problem ?
Get the guy back as it's hard to say without being there.

Perhaps you have a room thermostat somewhere in your property that has been turned down. Have a look round. they are usually placed in the hallway or living room. A box about 4" square with a dial on it. If you have one , see what that is set to if it's below 20°C then turn it up to around that figure and see if your house gets any warmer. ;)

No the room thermostat is set to 30C. Boiler is on number 5. No hot water and radiators are barely on :(

Is the boiler a Baxi Bermuda? If it is then the service engineer has left the thermostat phial dangling over the flame when he has put the combustion cover back on.

Well OP , logic might dictate that u get the service guy back ( as said by others ) if u cannot come to some arrangement with him or her as to times when u are home , than boil a kettle for hot water , & buy a few fan heaters ! ;)

Whilst you might be at work surely the relatives could let the gas man in?
