I'm replacing with a gas hob that will sit in the same gap above the built-in double oven.

I know that I need a qualified gas fitter to connect the new hob but will save money by removing the ceramic hob first.

Can anyone advise please?

Has the cable feeding it got an islolation switch of some sort?

Have you got a means of testing it if you're switching it off to make certain it's no longer live?

No doubt you'll still need a live feed to power the ignitor for the new hob.

Thanks for your reply.

The electrics can be switched off, at the mains obviously but the cooker has it's own supply. We had a gas cooker there until we renewed the kitchen in 2005 so the gas supply to the cooker was capped. I have testers but have only used them when renewing sockets or light fittings.

I intend to have the new gas hob properly fitted by a corgi qualified person though. I'd never attempt to do it myself.

To remove the ceramic hob, will the double-oven need to be removed? The hob appears to be sealed in also.

Our ceramic hob is held in by spring clips. Gently prising up with a screwdriver should lift it. The rubber seal on the worktop could be a bit sticky.
Hope this helps.
