I wonder if someone can help.

I am looking to replace our built in oven, which has a gas hob above it.

I wonder whether there may be a 'standard' way of installing these, our house was built in 1995.

The reason I ask is because I have measured in the gap above the oven from the front of the oven to the gas pipe on the wall and it is less than what the depth of the oven is according to the instructions.

I have no idea how it fits?? I don't want to take the oven out yet because it might not screw back in.

Anyone have any ideas how this might fit? Very confused!

Usually ovens are deeper at the bottom than the top as the designers know they might have to fit under a hob. They make the control panel section a sort of extension above the main cabinet and if the gas pipe is horizontal and behind that section you don't have a problem.

So do you think it's possible the gas pipe comes out of the wall horizontally just below the top of the oven and then goes up to the hob?

I can see the back of the oven through the gap and can't see where the pipe goes, it just goes down until out of site.

It's a hotpoint oven, but I can't see any pictures online of how much is 'missing' from the back of the oven at the top.

I don't understand why you don't just take the oven out to look. If it comes out it should go back in. I have known people to remove the back panel of the oven to allow room for a gas pipe, not a good idea!

The screws are loose on one side and if I take them out it is unlikely they'll go back in.

I will have to at some point, I'm just trying to work out the most likely way things are done.

I had presumed this pipe went down to the ground (because I have no idea) but is it more likely that it comes out of the wall?

It`s most likely to be fed from the floor, just take the oven out and look.If it fits now it will fit when you put the oven back in.Don`t worry about the 4 side screws not going back in,it`s not good practice but they often aren`t used at all.
While you have the oven out, check that there is some kind of isolation cock on the gas pipe,if not you should get one fitted.

I've had a look at the pipe, it come up against the wall, then forward then up to the hob.

That means the oven I wanted won't fit around the pipe.

The only ones I have found that show a cut out on the back that is suitable is siemens, but they're not cheap!

Anyone know of any decent oven makes that have a cut out at the back?

Never had a situation where a hob will not fit above an oven,
they're all standard sizes. Buy the oven whatever you want and if it fouls with the gas pipe get it altered to suit by a gas fitter......... found here ~

If it didn't cost silly amounts of money to get someone in to do that then it may be an option.

It's cheaper just to find an oven that fits.
