I want to move a gas pipe which feeds our boiler as it runs up the middle of our kitchen wall. A friend came round to look at the pipes before we knew it was gas and advised that if we ever want to upgrade our boiler (currently D effeciency 15KW) that we may have to upgrade our pipe which is currently 15mm to a larger one.

My question is, is it worth upgrading the pipe? It runs about 7 metres through the house from the meter and feeds the cooker and boiler. I assume running a new pipe under the floorboards will be a relatively quick job, and seems like the right time to do it before we put down new flooring.[/img]

Your engineer will size the pipe to carry the required amount of gas to your appliances.

there are tables ect to help him do this, its not difficult.

Pipe underfloor boards.

No a relatively slow job.

They can use trac pipe which will make it much quicker but it's expensive.

Hi they will work out the pipe size and underfloorboards is not a quick job , why do customers think everything is a relatively quick job , it takes as long as it takes if done correctly

Who`s to say a new boiler when fitted will go in the same spot?

That's a good point, but there aren't lots of options being a middle terrace house. I just don't want to have to rip up any new flooring we plan on putting down in a year or two. It all depends on the cost and need, so guess I will wait for the engineer

if you can afford it have your installer run 28mm copper from your meter under the floor and up to the tee off point for your cooker, then reduce it to fit the existing 15mm and that way regardless of which boiler you decide to fit for your size of a house in the future the pipe under the floor will be big enough
