Another Bathroom plastering question

Well the mother is getting her bathroom tiled from floor to ceiling with ceramic tiles and its down to me to sort the walls out first.

The walls were previously tiled halfway up the wall and when these tiles were removed some of the plaster has come away (back to the brickwork in parts) and the remaining surface is pretty loose.


Any recommendations on how to sort this out ready to be tiled?
After reading the stickies and some other posts i am thinking it will be best to use a sand/cement render?

Any advise you can offer would be really appreciated

anyone have any thoughts? i'm hoping to get it sorted this weekend.

If it;s loose then remove it, render it and tile straight to render if your doing floor to ceiling.

I've took it back to brick on the opposite wall as the existing render was brittle and had come away from the wall.
But this side (in the pic) is just a bit loose on the surface of the render and is stuck hard to the brick. Would it be okay for me to just rub off as much of the loose stuff as I can and use a SBR/cement slurry to "skim" it to the depth of the existing plaster at the top of the wall?
