RISING DAMP

Under laminate in hall is quarry tiles and Concrete in the cupboard. The wate pipe runs down from a cupbord in the upstairs box room and down I think, not sure where it gose from there. Possibily in the hall cupboard as directly above each other.(but I can't locate it there). Although the smell I mentioned before thought to of been the waste Pipe is in both cupboards up stairs and down.

No nails have been put in floor only thing we have done is put the laminate floor down over the quarry tiles.(damp seemed to have appeared around same time. Coincidence ?) may be if I do as suggested before and put food colouring down would know if it was a leek from waste pipe or not? Then move onto weather it could be plaster touching floor chimney etc.

Have you checked the connections on dishwasher/washing machine? I had one like thiis a few years ago ad the dishwasher installer had missed the rubber washer on the feed hose
 
The washing machine is in the utility, not kitchen. Is there still a possibility it could be washing machine even though its not near the hall way?.As wouldn't surprise me if that was not fitted properly. Thanks
 
I am still inclined to suspect an internal leak as the source, with the new laminate trapping and distributing water. Is lifting the laminate out of the question?

I could lift the laminate, but there is quarry tiles under that and under them is concrete. So wouldn't have though much to see/find.
 
Thought that as it started following fitting of laminate, then removal might expose some source of a leak. Sorry but have run out of any other suggestions.
 
Ok thank you for your advice. Since this post ive noticed some damp patches at top of the middle wall separating kitchen from dining room(in area where the chimney breast is in kitchen.) so my thinking is now back to the chimney! And the laminate floor trapping the moisture which is why may be i'm seeing the damp in the hall!?. Dose this sound like a good basis to go on, now I've seen damp at the top now?.My plan is to put a pepper pot on top of chimney to stop rain fall and dry the chimney out eventually then taking the old coal fire out and blocking off....would I need to put an air brick in if I don't want to completely take the chimney breast out?
 
That's useful. It can't be dpc related at that height. A cowl won't cost ,much and at worst won't add to any problem. An air vent is needed if you block up the fireplace.
 
It restricts air flow and allows moisture to condense in the chimney.
 
They restrict airflow unless they have a spinning cowl. Open chimneys have been around for thousands of years.

They can (& often do) improve airflow. Stick that in yer chimney.
 
Don't kid yourself mate. You can't alter physics. :rolleyes:
