hi, Is it possible to only use twist straps when securing roof rafters to a wall?

I ask as it seems more expensive to you truss clips and "hook" type lateral restraints.

So by using the twist type, surely this would eliminate the need for truss clips?

I'm a bit baffled by your question???

The truss clips are there to secure the truss to the wall plate and the bent straps are there to secure the plate to the wall.

If i understand you correctly, are you actually talking about fitting a bent strap to EVERY truss rafter in order to bypass simple and cheap truss clips?
Crackers!

depends what you mean by a bent strap.
90 degree or the twist type?

I suppose by your answer the truss clips and a few 90 degree straps at 1200mm space would be the best option?

The straps also stop the roof flying away and use the dead weight of the wall to fix down the roof (only really an issue with lightweight tiles/slates or flat roofs).. like noseall says do it properly, standard methods aren't done because they are the most expensive hardest ways.. they are normally the cheap/easy option..

ahh, definitely got no problems doing it properly.. only I didn't know if the truss clips and angle straps would be better than using lots of twist types.

As it happens this is going to be a mono pitched roof.. so I'll be avoiding any flat roofs!!..
I have long had problems with flat roof s in the past.. but I've been told it depends if they (flat roofs have been built properly)

Anyways, thanks for clearing this one up... if I have any other problems I'll not hesitate to ask :)

Thanks, Steve
