I did my deck last year with Liberon Decking Oil. It is a big deck.
The part that gets the most sun has peeled. It looks dreadful. I have now powerwashed and some areas I can't get the oil off (less sun areas). I need to re-oil but not sure about using the Liberon oil, DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG WHEN I APPLIED IT? I followed the instructions. Help

Personally I never use any proprietary oils. I always use several coats of raw linseed oil, 2 coats for starters then one coat every six months.

Hi Sassi,

I used Ronseal hardwood decking oil on my decking and to start with it looked beautiful, but after one winter it all turned to ****. It peeled and turned patchy. It certainly didnt fu ck ing do what it said on the tin.

I complained to Ronseal, they were apologetic and sent me some decking cleaner and replacement tins. However i had lost confidence of this product and haven't reapplied it. Instead i have a ****ty looking deck also.
I will post some pics of how it was when i finished building it and how it looks now. I'm most distressed about it as i spent alot of time biscuit joining each deck and cutting each mitre to perfection. I believed what the product said when it said 'tough durable protection against fading and peeling.' it did both very quickly. I feel my compensation would be for someone from Ronseal to come and rebuild my deck to how it was. I doubt that will happen either.

I have yet to find a product that protects hardwood colour against UV aging without it being a coloured stain to start with. Sadolin etc all do these but they seem to be a satin varnish which looks ****.

I dont know if you did anything wrong, application in cold damp environment may of been an issue if you had?

I found jetwashing will take off this layer, i would act quick to jet wash it off and prep the surface before it gets worse. Call Liberon with before and after pictures, as long as you prepped correctly and followed directions i would expect some support from them.

I had the same issue with Dulux naked wood on Cedar, same happened they sent me replacement product and removed Naked Wood as a product. Didn't help me that i was left with a faded Cedar cladded building!

For an alternative product perhaps talk to someone like Brewers for a recommendation.

How does oil peel? When I used linseed oil on a bench it soaked in, it didn't form a coating like paint.
