I owned a green bodied Bosch planer for eight years, no problems with it lovely tool but inevitable it died last year. So I replaced with Blue GHO 40-82 planer £240. After first use I felt iit was difficult to use, but thought it might be me not being used to it. Anyway, I've used it infequently up until last month when I was trying to shoot in a pair of Idigbo doors.

Brand new blades, but it wouldn't cut the timber unless I put all my weight and muscle behind it. So I thought F this its got to go back, its not me. Bosch now have planer and are stating there are foreign bodies in planer head which is causing the problem, plus a nicked cable and neither are warranty covered. New lead, yeh no problem, but the planer head foreign bodies!
Personally iI can't see how foreign bodies can get into the head it looks quite solid, but if foreign bodies have got in and caused it to mmalfunction, surely that in itself is a manufacturing issue not a user issue, personally I think these foreign bodies got in during manufacture but should they have got in through use then in my view its not fit for purpose.

Any experiences with Bosch Warranty, BTW I've had it for 6 months? Thanks

i had a similar problem with a bosch battery powered sander (green one about £60)

after a couple of hours work (not all in one session) it stopped working so i sent it back to amazon who replaced it, this happened again, and a 3rd time. After this amazon refunded me.

A little while later i got an email from bosch via amazon basically saying they werent happy because it should not have been replaced under warranty because the motor had filled with dust and therefore had jammed, my response ... ITS A SANDER! of course its going to get full of dust, hows about making one that can be used for what it is designed to do ... no reply

Bosch - sounds German . Actually made in China perhaps :?:

Bosch ARE German. My GHO40-82C, bought last October, was made in Germany (quite a few blue Bosch tools still are, like my SDS). No issues to date......

most if not all of my bosch blue 10.8v are china or malaysia
with the same training same materials same quality control its fairly irrelevant where you make things

I've found Bosch to be **** when it comes to warranty claims, they will use any excuse to get out of them, hence why I won't buy their tools anymore.

Try this because if it's not fir for purpose then you have a case. Just got new washing machine out of Curry's only had the other 6 months.

Bit late for that. They have opened it and said that it failed due to user error - ie that some rubbish was in the mechanism and it must've been his fault.

TBH it's hard to imagine how a user could be at fault with an electric plane - it's expected to be used in an environment full of dust and wood shavings.

And you'd think that they'd give him the benefit of the doubt with it being only 6 months old.

Bosch warranties are crap, I paid in the end and demanded the faulty part be returned to me as I actually still own it,.

When iI say crap I actually mean ****ing useless , 6 phone calls to them 6 promises to return my calls, no calls returned. Anyway got planer back but without faulty part, i certainly will not be buying anything by Bosch again, power tools anyway, actually the next exhibition they have at FFX I will be paying them a visit.

Hitachi on the other hand bend over backwards never a problem with them, grrr.

Thanks all
