Boiler to shower - how far is too far?

a stop cock has a non return valve built in, that valve you linked hasn't, so you couldn't fit that on its own,

you can tighten up the gland nut on the stopcock, thats most likely what's leaking, if you cant tighten up anymore, slacken it off a touch, wrap some PTFE in behind the nut on the threads then crank it back up again.

i doubt any heating engineer would just connect the boiler up.

It seems to me that they avoid wasting water during the seconds
between opening the tap and the boiler reaching temperature -
but on the other hand, they don't avoid waste as the hot water
flows along and heats up the pipe, and they don't actually make
the water arrive any sooner. And you can achieve the same thing
by only opening the tap a small amount at first.

True, but from what I've read if you don't open the tap quite enough the boiler won't fire up and if you open it too much you waste water, especially if you're on a meter.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has one installed and whether it achieved its objectives.

Could I not use one of these alongside it, it's the flow rate that I want to maintain
