This whole issue is beginning to annoy me. The initial response through the letting agent was that the landlord 'isn't keen' on fitting a thermostat and we should use the TRVs. I then sent an email detailing the Part L requirement and an extract from the boiler manual which clearly states that provision should be made for a boiler interlock - the letting agent responded saying the landlord has requested that they obtain a quotation for him to make a decision.

A fortnight later, they have said they will ask the RGI who is coming to do the annual safety check to 'investigate the issue and make a decision'.

It's incredibly frustrating that a simple issue like this is taking so long to get sorted, especially considering the amount of rent we're paying.

I could have fitted one quicker than the landlord's reply took to write.

Indeed. I had a look at the Benchmark at the back of the MIs - the box for a boiler interlock is ticked, this would imply that the system did have a thermostat at some point which was then removed or it was just ticked without actually having one installed.

All boilers installed since 01/04/2005 should have had a room thermostat if the boiler was just a swap out to an existing installation.

If your cylinder was yellow lagged or a bare copper cylinder with a crappy red sectional jacket THAT should have been replaced with the boiler as well

Complete new systems should have had TRV's from new.

This is the reason I don't get half the jobs I quote for. Trying to fooking do things right.

Ideal boiler, no room thermostat= ****e cheap installer.

Cant wait to leave self employment...............

And just to add members of the public, if your boiler has been installed without those works done that silly piece of paper called ' gas works installation' you got when you moved in/ had the works done means sweet FA because your system DOSENT comply.............

I thinking that's a bit further than the N° 72 bus travels...

The 72 goes between the Bush and Barnes. Not to Chester.

The National Express goes to Chester. The off peak fares are only £7 booked in advance.

But I my fee of £84 only applies to jobs local to me.

I am sure David could invisibly fit a wireless stat and remove it when he leaves.

Tony you forgot to quote a price change from a simple stat to a wireless stat as you call them

David knows his time has to be given free to improve his rented flat.

The RGI is coming on Thursday to carry out the annual safety check and investigate the system. I just hope he's decent and recognises the problem.

Not sure what there is to investigate

The letting agencies words were "because he's the qualified person" ... even though I am also qualified in the field, albeit not in domestic gas.

The 2010 (which would have applied when the boiler was installed) Part L compliance guide is clear as day and explicitly states that TRVs alone do not provide a boiler interlock.
