Hello all,

I'm moving into a property soon with my partner and one thing I noticed is that there isn't a room thermostat installed. The lady from the estate agent looked puzzled when I mentioned it and said she'd ask the landlord for more info.

If the landlord is awkward about it - for example by saying the TRVs will suffice or to use the boiler stat, will I still be able to insist that one is fitted? Should it be down to me to fund the installation of one?

I'm just concerned about having control of the heating and the gas usage.

The boiler is an Ideal Independent combi.

Thank you

Depends on property , you have boiler thermostat and TRV`s, why do you need a separate thermostat

As far as I recall, Building Regs. (Part L) still requires a thermostat to be fitted in addition to TRV's.

Might be worth checking that the new boiler installation was notified to BC.

Yes, but only on new installs. So depends on the age of the boiler.

Is this a grotty cheap rental? Or decent place? I. E. Is the cost of fitting a stat, relative to the rental income for the landlord going to prohibitive?

An hours labour plus a wireless stat is not going to break the bank.

I'm not sure how old the Ideal Independent boilers are? It's a decent place in a nice village.

Few landlords I come across would be willing to fund the £100 to fit a simple room stat.

But, if approached carefully, many would probably agree to let you fit one if advised of your competency.

It's not an 'extra' thermostat as such though is it? It's a basic requirement that should have been installed in the first place.
