WiFi booster setup.

OK bit the bullet and got a booster from Lidi, It works well no complaints there, however it has two log in modes 2.4G and 5G same pass number for both, I assume I should use 5G, but why two options?

Also the log in to change passwords will not work with firefox, and now also failed with Internet Explorer the log in page shows for a very short time then goes before I can log in.

I got in once and changed log in details from the default but after that it will not let me log in, simply can't keep the page displayed for long enough to type in the name and pass word. Does not stop it working but would be nice to also change log in pass number as anyone with same extender can now access my system.

A lot of older devices will not connect to 5ghz that's why most routers and wifi devices do a dual antenna to broadcast both. If you can see both always choose 5ghz you should find it runs quicker.

Does your router have the two frequencies in sync, can cause problems, better to have them separate.
I bought a good one from asda, have them on offer £15, it just boosts both frequencies no set up required.

It works A1 not sure about security however, as can't get access to change it from default.

I tried the Lidl one, and took it back after struggling with it for an hour. I had to search the internet for the login details, and finally got into it, but still couldn't get the system working, but it should just continue the same security as your existing router though.

Argos have the TP Link one for £15 too.

But aren't they the same as the "through the mains" extenders a la Devolo?

Or do they do it wirelessly?

I am thinking of setting up another router as an access point. Would this be better (coverage, reliability) than the TP Link or just the same?

Do you have to set up the TPL bit of kit or is it plug and play?

Wireless, just plug and play, they have an Ethernet port so you can add a device which may not have a wireless connection as standard.

If you make sure it has a WPS button on it, then it's extremely simple to install. I got the AC750 RE200, and placed it in the middle of the house, and it now covers out into the garden as well. It's £26.99 at argos, but you could very likely get away with the Netgear N300 @ £17.99
