is there such a thing?
a pal of mine thinks that he used to have a PTZ speedome camera which had some sort of ring assembly just above the perspex dome. this ring assembly could motion-trigger, and then the camera would automatically slew to the angle at which the motion was detected.

he may be misremembering.

I guess that it is theoretically possible to do this with PIR sensing...

does this ring any bells with anyone? we think that the camera in question was Sony branded and was bought about 10 years ago.

anyway he wants something with a similar capability. I don't know of anything that would do this as a single package. I can see that something similar could be made up using alarm inputs and separate external triggers, but you don't usually get more than about 2 alarm inputs to a PTZ do you? I suppose it would need at least 4 to approach what he is talking about.

It's usually done with separate PIRs to be honest as the best position for a PTZ camera won't necessarily be the best location for a PIR (especially mounting heights)

I've installed PTZ with 8 alarm inputs before, they are out there. Failing that, most DVR/NVR will usually have at least the same number of alarm inputs as video channels. These inputs can be mapped to PTZ presets as required.
