When we moved into this house there was already a Drayton digistat thermostat here, we never used it so took the part where you control the temperature off when decorating and got rid of it, the other part which is attached to the boiler is still there as it’s how we turn heating on and off - I would now like to use a thermostat to keep the house at a constant temperature so do I have to buy a whole new thing and fit the part attached to the boiler again or can I just buy the part which controls the temperature and somehow pair it with the digistat that’s already wired in? Also is it easier to just buy another Drayton or will other makes be just as easy to fit where the Drayton is now?

There are a few models of the Drayton digistat thermostat and in the past I have had problems getting new to pair with old not with that make but in general.

How about using thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) programmable heads

start at around £10, I am using the bluetooth version of one shown, they seem to work well.

I assume you have (had) a wireless and not a wired one?

if so, as Eric says, better to buy a whole new pair. Get another Drayton and it will probably be an easy swop.

if it is a WIRED system, show us a photo of the wiring and the bit you didn’t throw away.

No you need a new pair, doesnt have to be Drayton there are loads of different ones available , but I would stay away from Salus
