The filling loop seems to have sprung a leak where the metal crimps onto the braid.

Is this a straight forward-ish change over is the whole system gonna need emptying?

cheers

As long as the tap and the Non return valve are holding, a new loop is simple to fit; just undo the 'dog ears'.

You want that changed as soon as you can given the proximity of that socket. The other question is why is it leaking, as there shouldn't be any pressure in there. That should be turned off when once the system is filled unless either the check valve is passing or you've just had to top/fill the system recently?

Thanks

we did top up the other day as the pressure was low. Not sure why.

It’s actually leaking from both end of the braided hose. Where the metal meets the braided part.

Not sure what to do though

Just buy a new filling loop and use the pipe from it, sizes are usually universal. Chances are it may be the seals inside the nut rather that the braided section that's leaking but you never know.
Just make sure the taps are off on both valves and loosen the pipe slowly and have a basin to catch any water. Better still turn off the mains cold water just to be sure.

I can turn off the isolator at the one end. How do I shut the other end off?

Doesn't it have a tap at the other end (check valve)? Can you post a pic from a little further out?

OK, not a PartL type so only one valve. Not an issue, fix is still the same. You may find the hose is a bit longer but just loop like the one you have.

The hose should be disconnected once the system pressure is topped up but the norm is to leave it connected.

so turn the one isolator off and then disconnect?

Yes, just in case one of the valves is leaking then turn off the cold water first and have a basin underneath and loosen slowly.

Sounds like it. If you have bought a new filling loop, you will have either a check valve or another isolating tap. If you turn off the flow and return to the boiler, let it drain through the hose, replace the check valve, fit the new loop and refill the boiler.
