Anyone on here drive a caddy or a transit connect?

If so how do you rate them for reliability and what are the service intervals like for cam belts/water pumps etc.

Thinking of getting one of these to replace my car since im always working on projects and it would come in handy to have for lugging supplies around yet they are small enough to use for day to day tasks.

More importantly i can use it for fishing, camping and trackdays to transport my bike.

Connect feels and drives like a van where as the caddy drives like a car for me.

The Connect is a very versatile vehicle and is a commercial in its own right - it's not a converted car, I mean. On a hired vehicle I did find it a bit noisy but it did drive well and was quite quick.....this was a diesel but not sure of the engine size!
The Caddy does beat it in a few areas though - comfort and build quality being the main. This does seem to be reflected in the price, of course and second hand values are high.
John :)

Bare in mind speed limits are lower for vans, but not for car derived vans like a Caddy. You're legally restricted to 60mph on dual carriageways and 50mph on A-roads with a Transit. Link

Caddys are not classed as car derived vans, the V5C should say "Panel Van"...

...and that particular one ( a random one I picked from eBay) has a maximum gross weight of over 2000kg, so it falls foul of both rules.

Even if the V5C says "Car Derived Van", but the MGW is over 2000kg, then you're still stuck with the lower speed limits.

Even a tiny van like a Bipper, will say "Panel Van", and not "car derived van"...

If in any doubt check the log sheet for class of vehicle. Left hand side around four rows down.

Before you buy a van, check on the insurance angle. You may pay a premium as I believe they are harder to insure for just SD&P & commuting use and you may have to purchase business class insurance.
