Drones are great fun. I had one a couple of years ago, 2018 I think it was, when I was working in Three Bridges in Crawley, by the railway line. Sometimes I'd get up early and zoom around the landscape in nearby districts.

"Sussex Police confirmed it has paid the couple the £55,000 owed in damages, and law firm Howard Kennedy said it has billed the force an additional £145,000 in legal costs."

Maybe if the police had coughed up earlier the legal costs would be lower. Did they think they'd win?
The police don't 'cough up', the taxpayer does...

Hence why they don't give a s hit about the truth!

And of course buried amongst their 'confession' is that they now believe that the alleged 'sightings' were actually of their own police drones!

So that Police operation cost the local rate payers of Sussex over £1 million . with no result !

Exactly

Compensation should be paid out of there pension fund

Or

Those responsable should have a deduction from there wages or pension

On top of that it cost countless millions in travellers' expenses that were never covered by insurance policies...

Of course new laws were swiftly brought in, and that was maybe the point of the 'exercise'?
