1st floor hallway regs help

No requirement but just have to use a little common sense.

Why is your stair so wide because could you not reduce that to 1m overall strings, which will then not make the access to the Bedroom so tight?

I assume the 880mm is the dimension you have measured (shown as the red line) so you have not yet accounted for the stair balustrade?

What is the layout for the rest of that floor assuming you do have a floor plan?

yes indeed whats practical you could do say a 2ft3" door but your restricting your furniture size

which states the same. Section 1b page 7

So this problem occurs on the entrance level to the property? (We can do this all week; you're not contravening any regulation, and your corridor is wider than mine - although one might have expected the stair and landing to be approximately the same width.)

This only applies to the entrance storey.

No. Only immediately at the top of any flight - where the landing should be at least as wide as the flight.

So its down to being pragmatic and the main criteria is whether you could get across the landing safely, half asleep, in a panic, in smoke filled darkness and find the stairs.

Ours ended up like this and from the wall to the balustrade it's about 830mm. There is plenty of room.

Thanks for the help guys. I can’t answer as to why the stairs are so wide. It’s just what the builder did. Along with not taking into account the hall width when doing the stud frame. I’ll have to live with it as it is.

In the end I decided to extend the hall to approx 1m wide. I did this by sitting a joist in the web of the steel beam and bolting through, I then ran another joist parallel and inserted noggins with joist hangers. I then extended the floorboard and boxed round the underneath with plasterboard.
