Ceiling light- 3 sets of wires to fit into 1 set light

Okay so I found it in the loft and had an ex sparky look when he was measuring for window fittings, basically they are being used as an extension to the original wires and adding three to each wire that are in the loft. I've taken out the 2 extras and left just one in each connector....View attachment 288079
Although I guess I am best off trying to use the original cables in the loft? I notice there are 3 red cables off on another of those connectors....

Yes, assuming your new light fitting has space, you need the cables in the loft to come through the ceiling into the room.

And you need to take a photo of how those wires are connected to the connector block.

You don't want the connector block to be in the loft.

However, if your new light fitting doesn't have much space for wires, you can fit an enclosed junction box in the loft, with one sheathed cable going to the light fitting.

If you can get your friendly ex sparky back ask them to come equipped with a suitable junction box and tidy up the cables and leave a piece of suitable twin and earth/three core flex exiting the hole ready for connecting to the new light
