Hi

I’m running a dehumidifier in a garage, but the continuous drain needs a pump to function properly. I’ve purchased a Sanicondens SK4 condensate pump but the instructions say “Do not connect to a conventional plug and socket, it must be connected into a fused, unswitched, fixed wiring connector with a 5a fuse”. Any reason I shouldn’t add a regular 3 pin plug and connect to a regular socket ?
Any guidance much appreciated thanks.

Is it designed for the UK market?

Might be they don't want to risk somebody unplugging it

The pump was purchased from Anchor Pumps in the UK, SFA the parent company is actually French and the UK instructions are translated from the French original.

No valid reason, do what you like it's yours now.
Thanks for replying.. I’m not a regular DIY’er, especially cautious around electrics. Was a little concerned by the explicit warning and couldn’t understand why I shouldn’t wire it up to a regular plug.

I cynically suspect manufacturers who say this are trying to work around the plugs and sockets safety regulations. If they say it is suitable for use on a plug they have to supply it with one fitted, but if they say it is not designed for use on a plug and socket they don't.

I have done and awaiting their response. Thanks.
Fair enough, but one imagines that if/when they respond, they will merely re-iterate what their instructions say - it would be rather odd if they were to say things to you which were inconsistent with their instructions/'warnings'.

but perhaps they will say "because...."
Perhaps, but I don't think I would be 'holding my breath' for that!

I suppose it depends on some extent on exactly how the OP has worded his question to them. If he has explicitly asked 'why?', they might be more likely to provide a 'because' response but even that may not prove to be the case.

The instructions don’t sound as if they were just translated. Fused connection units are only used in the UK and in countries that use UK sockets and wiring methods, so I assume they were specifically written for the UK.
