Hi All,

I appriciate your time to read this.

We have had an optima compact alarm for about 18 years, when the house was built. It was only serviced once after install, so yes the battery was not working etc.

In about 2020/21 the transformer burnt out, we dont set it all the time so didnt realise. This year in april we replaced the transformer, and changed the battery, the battery no longer holds charge, im hoping this is just the battery fuse to change and hoping the resistor has not burnt out !

Anyway, the point of this help page is- i was trying to do a walk test the other day, i could not get it to do a walk test, i managed to test the strobe/sounder and pannel sounder, but in the Manuel it says press 0 and then it also says 5 so its a bit unclear on how to do a walk test. I was messing around a bit trying to work it out. Now about every 5 or 10mins the internal sounder goes beep beep like it is warning me of the battery or idk what? It has done this since i did the "test" yesterday and i will order a new battery fuse to try that. The sounder only gives the warning beep when in day mode so does not to it when armed or in tamper.

If you know why this is please advice. I think it may of realised the battery fault when i try to do test, but remember, i could not test the zones only panel and sounder.

I have realised that the reason i could not test in walk test was i was using engineering code, as my old manual said to do but i need to enter the user code, I will walk test tomorrow. The issue is the beep.

Also when changing the battery fuse tomorrow, should i do it like this:

1- Mains off
2-Disconnect battery
3-Change fuse
4-Connect battery
5-Restore power from mains

How old is the battery?
What is the state of the pcb? (any burn marks around any components)

It could in technical terms be ..............

some pictures will help speed things up for you

I will send some photos this evening, no burn marks the battery was in from pre 2009 but was changed this year in april. Considering the batt was not changed before this year, im hoping it will be the batt fuse otherwise it could be the charging resistor?

The image with 09 on is this year before we changed the battery the 2025 is the other week. No burn.

Ahh, Ill check the keyboard tomorrow, if its burnt out what should i do, and if not?

Battery fuse, shall i get 150 amp fuse

Remove battery ….multimeter set to dc …what voltage reading do you get when you put the probes in the battery leads …

Hi All I have fixed battery issue, fuse had gone, will replace every 5yrs now unless i convince all to get new system!

Cheers

Now then zone 6 and 5 and another zone had their contacts removed but are still wired into the pannel, could this be the beeping, as i have done a walk test for the first time since they where removed?

The unused zones will need to be programmed as not used, or the zone(s) physically shorted out in the panel.
