Hello

It would appear that the battery of our outdoor siren alarm has died and needs replacing. I’ve opened it up and attached a picture.

Will this be a suitable replacement for it ?

This one also says recharchable, is mine not ?

Thanks

Take the current battery out and it should have the details printed on it.

But looks about right.
Not familiar with elmdene units, so don’t know the recommended power or capacity of the top of my head or its dimension for it to fit units holder.

Note looks like screw in battery terminals and link to battery on amazon is pre terminated battery , so would require cutting off and stripping potentially if it’s the right power, capacity and dimensions.

How do you know the battery has failed?

Good question re the battery has failed. I’m not sure to be honest. The main battery has died for sure as the system alerted me about it. And now the entire system is dead but the alarm bell outside kept ringing until it died as well. I purchased a new one which should arrive next week.

I wonder if by installing new main battery it’ll also recharge this one.

So it’s not dead, just drained and if charged up should be okay, bell box battery most likely.

Normally modern bell boxes ring for 15/20 minutes then stop.

If they are activated again the process repeats.

On some bell boxes how ring it rings can be determined by the alarm panel and or the bell box itself. Find the manual for the bell box.

The alarm panel should not run in battery alone, if it is then you have a mains power issue to the panel and you need to sort that out first.

What is the alarm panel?

It does, as when you switch mains off alarm still works, I believe it is to prevent it being disabled by cutting power off. I’ve attached a picture, to the left is the battery I’m replacing, which has died.

Yes, and that’s the main battery which has died but I think it charges the siren outside as well

But you don’t really know do you ? It’s done it’s job after power fail….sounded and cut off , it won’t do anything untill it’s re-powered … I don’t think there is anything wrong with it

I am lost.

If the mains is off an panel is working then the back up battery is working.

If you have mains on and disconnect the battery is the alarm panel still functioning?

Mains power plus battery =alarm works
Mains power only = alarm works ?
Battery only = alarm works (confirmed)

I am currently not convinced there is a problem.

Wrt the panel battery, if that has not been replaced yet it needs testing to see if it has charged back up to an acceptable level.

Need to know if alarm works when mains off and just on battery.

Allow me to elaborate

Main battery died for sure, I had an alert about it being low in the controller on the wall but the new one hasn’t arrived it time yet.

When this battery dies or taken out the siren outside goes off as it thinks someone is tempering with the alarm inside.

This is an old siren from 2009 so not complying with latest regulations to stop after 15-20 minutes. It went off until its own battery died as well.

My question: Once the main battery arrives and revives the system, will it also charge / revive the siren battery or do I need to have that replaced as well. I guess I can wait and see when it arrives by testing it

That’s a elmdene quartz 3000. It does have a cut off timer , that’s what’s probably stopped it ringing not a flat bellbox battery , the 9651 would have come up with a battery fault but that does not relate to the bellbox battery …
