Hi guys,
I am completely renovating an older house, I have employed a builder to do the main works, however he has said " all the wallpaper and ceiling paper must be removed even if you are knocking them down"
Surely if you are demolishing the walls and ceilings why do you need to take the paper off? I am baffled. Please advise is he is correct?
Thanks S

Perhaps he thinks he’ll see where chases are or summat..?
If it’s a waste separation thing, it sounds a bit extreme. Not something that would concern us until it came to plastering etc. Wall paper is the enemy in that case.

If it's part of the deal then he's right!

No bad thing to see if there's evidence of historic movement plus Noseall's points.

The house is about 1960 no outside pipes all internal walls, Steveie888 I can't see what taking the wallpaper off will achieve. I will be getting it ready knocking down unsupported walls and the ceilings.Removing fixture etc. Thanks S
