Door Bell camera without subscription

I’ve just ditched my Ring Doorbell, as well as the £50 / year subscription, with them being WiFi, the signal can be blocked.
I already had Hikvision CCTV system installed so I’ve added a Hikvision Video Doorbell to the DVR, it does all that the Ring Doorbell did plus it records onto the HDD 24/7 and is hardwired so it’s immune to WiFi blockers.
If you are looking for a standalone video doorbell I would suggest something with local storage (SD card) in case of WiFi interference.

What Hikvision doorbell did you go for? I am looking at the new DS-KV6114-WBE1 4MP unit.

I used the the predecessor of the one that you are looking at, DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) it’s a 2MP camera. It’s connected to my DVR with Cat6 cable via a PoE switch.

Reason being I wanted to run an internal chime off it as well as notifications via Hik-Connect and this particular model has an option in settings to change the output to “Mechanical Doorbell”, most of the others didn’t have that feature.
I did this by connecting the N/O and Common wires on the video doorbell to a mains powered Byron 776 chime.

Not sure if this feature is available on the KV6114.

I ended up buying the DS-KV6114-WBE1 unit. Got it working to the NVR ok. Had to use HiTools to initilise the camera and set IP etc. Having an absolute nightmare trying to work out how to get the doorbell press to actually create an alert on Hik-Connect. Cant seem to find any relevant settings within the Camera WebUI to set it up.

I have managed to upload a ringtone .wav file to the Doorbell, however when i press the doorbell button it gives a brief engaged tone and no notification in Hik-Connect. Unless im missing something the manual is not very good at covering how to get the doorbell to work as, well a doorbell.

In the output settings I can set Output 2 to a 'doorbell' option. Hopefully this can be used to wire to a manual chime for non Hik-Connect notification.

Apparently a lot of chimes won’t work with the Hikvision bell pushes, I did a lot of research and I ended up getting a Byron 776 chime, it has a built in transformer so mains supply up to the chime.
Then, after changing the output settings on my DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) I connected the N/O and Common wires to the chime with bell wire, so I get alerts on Hik-Connect and a traditional “ding dong”.

Also I now get 24/7 recording onto the DVR HDD whereas with the Ring Doorbell it only recorded for about 30 seconds when movement was detected.

This is what i want to emulate.
How did you get alerts on Hik-Connect working?

Oh, also I have the doorbell connected direct to the NVR (with the NVR providing PoE) and this works great. No need for a seperate PoE switch in between the two.

I use a Ring one without subscription. If I want to look back at anything, I use my CCTV. It’s just handy to be able to talk to and give instructions to anyone that rings my bell when I’m out.

That isn't a doorbell though.

Presumably, you would need to use a ladder each time you want to remove the SD card.
Yes, it's not a doorbell. I'm in 2 times. I would prefer the 3 lens camera, as I already have a non-camera doorbell.

Yes, you would need to a ladder, but I would never be changing the SD card during it's normal life.
Although I use a Ring doorbell without subscription, I also bought a Blink package from Amazon in when it was on offer. I forget how much I paid for it and I haven’t yet used it for its intended purpose. The kit is a doorbell camera and an outside camera. They both connect wirelessly to a supplied hub that just plugs into a mains power supply and that connects to your phone/I pad through the app. It’s the hub that has the SD card in it so you can just remove that and put it in a PC to replay any stored footage if you need to. So far, I’ve only used the camera to get alerts and spy on a Robins nest in my garden! I’m happy enough with just the Ring camera - I only want to be able to answer the doorbell when I’m out.

Mine is connected via a PoE switch and it just worked, the bell push notified the app and i set up a detection zone on iVMS / SADP which alerts when someone is approaching the door.

Changed the output settings to “doorbell” and connected to a Byron 776 chime and everything works as it should.

I read somewhere that it needs to be connected via a PoE switch even when an NVR is used, I can’t find the article at the moment but I’m sure someone will come along and say if this is correct or not.

If you have a PoE switch or can borrow one, I’d definitely give that a try.

As above I believe this is correct as the NVR gives Poe camera a local address to the machine , not an address on your network , not sure if you can alter this on the NVR
