I’m looking to replace my outside tap with two outlets so I can run a pipe into my detached garage. What would be the best way to do this?

I’m intention is running the pipe down from the existing tap underground then vertically up my garage wall and using an insuduct as below.

Are you going to be digging up your flags and burying the pipe to the reqired depth

Yer, not sure what depth though, if I insulate the pipe I’m guessing I don’t need to go down to 750mm?

Insulation won't stop it freezing eventually and not burying it deep enough might cause you problems with other things in the future.
The old saying is do it properly and do it once. Or something like that :giggle:

Thanks, I thought if the pipes were insulated this would stop them freezing as that is basically what the vertical Insuduct does?

I’m assuming as I have a 15mm supply to my existing garden tap the 20mm MDPE pipe will be the best size to use? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, so I’ve hand excavated to 850mm (and have aches on parts of my body I never knew existed) to allow me to lay a 100mm bed of pea gravel and the pipe will be sitting at 750mm below ground level with another 100mm layer of gravel above.

I’m now after a bit more advice if anyone is able to help me.

Question 1

For the vertical sections of the pipework I’ve looked at proprietary systems such as ‘Insuduct’ and also ‘Pipe Frost Protection Box’, both of which are quite expensive in my opinion. Does anyone know of an alternative system that may be more cost effective?

Question 2

I’ve decided to also run a hot water pipe into the garage alongside the cold water pipe. Given that it will sit 750mm below ground level I’ve no concern about it freezing but would like to insulate the hot water pipe to reduce the heat loss of the water over the run which is about 3m. What would be the best thing to insulate it with? Again, Ive seen pre-insulated pipe sections but this is quite expensive.

Thank you in advance for everyone that helps as I genuinely appreciate the assistance I get from this forum.

Would this be ok to put underground and would it need to be in a duct of some sort to prevent it being compressed?

Not really an issue it’s quite dense , only problem I had with garage supply was foxes taking a liking to the taste of insulation.
