Trimming blockwork pier

I've a 1500 high by 440 wide blockwork pier in a wall that extends 120mm from the wall face and want to trim 50mm off it. Any suggestions as to the best way to do this?

If it's bonded, disc saw, repo saw and chisel.

If it's tied, knock it off, and rebuild if necessary.
