Blockwork column

Hi plans require a tied blockwork column to support an f type lintel. Problem is column should be 400-500 wide perpendicular to existing stone wall. Blockworks 440 standard. To create stagger do I go with 1 block and a thin bit or 1/3 and 1/2. Seems whatever way compromised. Nice n easy if it was 660 wide!

Thanks guys should have added that the column is built onto existing brick foundations 150mm wide.When built and lintel added it creates a doorway with existing 150mm wall. Fills a space originally removed for stairs.
